It was a late night before, but I still made it up for the sunrise in Eliat

Our haven from the rats discovered nearby which kept us from sleeping under the stars

A short taxi ride to Egypt and we're on the road south on the Sinai Pennisula

Nothing but cool mountain and desert scenes on the taxi ride south - did I mention what a hassle it was trying to find a Taxi who wouldn't try to get rich taking us?

An Egyptian rest stop

There were locals at the stop as well

And the night before was short on sleeping time

A goat makes a break for the "kitchen"

The same goat being chased out of the kitchen

We made it to Dahab! This is main street.

Lots of wares - and of course bartering

We had lunch at the only two story place in town. The Red Sea is lined with places like those pictured where you can eat, drink, sleep or just hang out.

Another angle on the same shot from the "Italian" restaurant. As you might expect the food was substandard.

Abdul's camel lot

The Hard Rock Cafe in Dahab - I got a shirt of course

Home sweet home in Dahab. My room was the second from the left pictured.

A cloudy sunrise over the Red Sea - can you see the coral that cut us when we foolishly attempted crossing it to go snorkling?

It is getting lighter

I do like sunrises

Official sunris over the Red Sea

Ok - don't get too bored. I didn't want you to miss any of it..

It was more beautiful than the camera could capture - of course

HappyLand - where we stayed. Did I mention the rates - around $4 a night for a single room. There were $1/night grass huts in town also.

Egyption Pounds

A most wonderful snorkling spot. Darn - if only I'd have know that they had underwater disposable cameras then - you could see some of the thousands of water creatures and coral we explored.

Mother and daughter catching another sunrise with me.

Mommy - why this, that, and the other thing..

I think this is still before we were visited by this totally wacked out mo-fo who claimed to be a member of "Hamas". He said not to tell the CIA that he was hanging out in Dahab. His last mission netted him a million dollars - acording to him!

On the road back to Israel - in a taxi of course

There's a few road/mountain/water shots here

The water was an amazing color - I don't know that I captured it

A totally desolate and barren landscape - except for the Sea

Ok - I realized I was going to be re-united with my computer and could download my images - so I wanted to get as many shots a possible.

And I wouldn't spare you from the adventure

The taxi driver pointed out this neat lagoon

.. and he slowed down so I have more than one picture of this one

Something about the simple elegance of mountains, desert, and water

Zoomed a bit for comparison

We're at the Egyptian/Israeli border - A last look back at Egypt

The Egyptian border processing - where they took my friends (illegal) coral. They saw it in the X-Ray machine and went right to it. They said we were lucky they found it because the Israeli border control would have imposed a steeper penalty.
